There must be something in the water at Hollywood studios seeing as every
other day, there is a comic book being adapted for the big or small screen. From
The CW’s lineup to Marvel’s Netflix shows (or is it Netflix’s Marvel shows?).
Remember
that 2009 Zack Snyder produced super hero movie Watchmen? Well, it’s being made
into a TV show..in fact, HBO has already formally ordered a pilot for a
Watchmen series.
For the uninitiated, Watchmen is the legendary 1986 graphic novel created
for DC Comics. The story takes place in a post-superhero version of the 80s,
where superheroes emerged in the 1940s and 1950s and were eventually outlawed
unless they chose to sign up for official government work.
And just like the 2009 movie, the story follows a small group of retired
superheroes (and a still-active vigilante) as they investigate the murder of a
former comrade/colleague. It is still uncertain as to what direction the show
will go, who will be cast, when it will be on etc, nevertheless, production is
rumored to be under way.
I am just excited to see my all time favorite Watchman ‘Rorschach’ make a
comeback to the screen. Jackie Earle Haley absolutely owned the role in the
2009 movie and I am curious to see who will be wearing the mask on the HBO
series.
