HTC and Google have officially announced something of a marriage of sorts friends with benefits type deal.
Apparently, Google will pay HTC $1.1 billion in exchange for some of its
employees, granting them in the process, access to HTC’s intellectual property
as well as access to HTC’s manufacturing patents and designs for its future
Pixel devices. Although, said merger is still waiting to be approved by regulatory
officials and is expected to complete in early 2018, It nevertheless will help
HTC to excel with its upcoming/in development phone and help expand its VIVE VR
platform as well as augmented reality and artificial intelligence. The announcement
was made yesterday by senior vice president of hardware at Google Rick Osterloh.
Should/when this merger comes to pass; it may prove mutually beneficial
to both companies involved. Much as it seems like Google is that immutable
giant, they still lack that in-house produced flagship phone and to this day have
relied on other OEM’s producing phones according to their specifications. With this
merger, Google could be well on their way to combating the likes of Apple bymaking
that produced by/running on android true flagship phone. HTC on the other hand
have been literally staggering behind the competition and has been in desperate
need of a win since the HTC One M8.
Really rooting for HTC and the upcoming Pixel and Pixel XL 2.
