In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook made an attempt to address the
hefty price tag attached to the recently announced iPhone X.
“Well, it’s a value price actually
for the technology that you’re getting,” Cook said. “As it turns out, most people are paying for phones over long periods of
time. And so, very few people will pay the full price of the phone initially.
Also, most people actually trade in their current phone, and some carriers
throw in subsidies and discounts.”
Well, speaking for us on this side of the Atlantic that want to get in on
all that FaceID action, contractual payments do not exist for us, meaning we
pay full price. And as far as trade- ins go, have you ever tried swapping out a
phone at Computer Village? Where your mint conditioned iPhone 7 could be valued
at NGN50k and sold at NGN180k (person doing the valuing wearing a straight face
all through so you know it is no joke).
Nevertheless, Apple does have a surprisingly strong fan base in Nigeria
so regardless a hefty price tag, many will acquire it one way or another.
