Apple announced the iPhone X, 8 and
8 Plus near a week ago and fans went bonkers with excitement when they learned
that amongst its bevy of features, fast charging had finally found its way to
Apple (suck it you galaxian droid fans),
I mean, who wouldn’t want to go from
0-50 in 30 minutes huh? Well before you break out the party shoes, Apple it
turns out left a not so tiny detail out about said fast charging capabilities. Apparently,
fast charging will come at a price, a whole $84 worth of it (NGN 31k). Clearly,
Apple has chosen to accessorize fast charging, something that is standard and
comes bundled with most other flagship smartphone manufacturer out there. The
likes of the LG G6 and V30 come with fast charging accessories out the box, Samsung
started it with the Note 5 and it has trickled down to all its other flagship
phones since then. It comes with the premium pricing, Fast. Charging. Cables. And.
Adapters. Are. Supposed. To. Come. Bundled. In. The. Box.
On the iPhone X, 8 or 8 Plus, what you need to
get fast charging is a USB type C to lightning cable that retails for $35 on
the Apple store, and at least a 29W wall plug that retails for $49.
I can excuse fast chargers not being bundled in the 8 or 8 Plus, but also
on the X? Why na Apple?
To offer some perspective, should you opt for the $1000 iPhone X or its
$1150 256GB variant and want fast charging along with it, it all comes up to $1089
or $1239 (NGN 398k for the 64GB and NGN 453k for the NGN256k). And we have not
even thrown in the Airpods that also do not come bundled or the Qi-wireless
charging mat.
Granted, there most definitely will
be cheaper 3rd party accessories, but personally, I’d rather go with
an in-house/made by Apple option so that should any problems arise, I know who
to point my fingers at.
Then again, per the wise words of
cheap ol’ me, who fat charging epp.
