Word making the rounds is that Warner
Bros. is developing a movie about the origin story for The Joker that will not
be part of the DC Extended Universe.
Apparently the DCEU is not enough for WB
to produce as many movies as they’d like ergo, WB is now intent on creating a
new banner of the studio that will further explore the DC Comics characters at
their disposal in new and interesting ways and apparently, the Joker will be
the first film to come out of this new banner.
The movie is slated to feature a
new actor in the role of Joker and seeing as we recently saw Jared Leto step
into the shoes of the clown prince of crime in last year’s Suicide Squad this
causes a bit of confusion, even more so when we hear Jared Leto’s Joker is to
star in the sequel to Suicide Squad and the upcoming Gotham City Sirens. It will
undoubtedly be headache inducing for movie goers to see a young Joker film one
year and then see Leto reprise the role with a different take in a different
universe soon after.
I’m really curious to see how they’d
pull this one off especially when one considers that to tell a good Joker story
requires a Batman in some shape or form, and seeing as Jared Leto’s Joker is in
the same universe as Ben Affleck’s Batman, are they going to recast Batman also?
You know what, my head hurts.
