Any one in tune with their movie history remembers 2009’s
Avatar: a movie that 8 years later, is still holding on to the title of biggest
earning movie with a whopping $2.7 billion. Naturally, as is only fair, James
Cameron is slated to release not just one but three sequels or three-quels with
the first expected to hit cinemas in
2020 (a full 11 years after Avatar) and
every day, news filters in about on-going development. The latest being Stephen
Lang’s Col. Miles Quaritch or as I like to call him,
General Stone (who’d done
2 tours in Nigeria) will be back as the main bad guy in all three sequels.
Normally, this would not raise an eyebrow but everyone familiar with Avatar
remembers that when last we saw General Stone, he was impaled in his AMP suit
and even if the spear used missed a vital organ, the glass ensuring he
maintained breathable air within the suit was shattered ergo he’d have
suffocated in minutes due to Pandora air being unbreathable.
So, I and the crew have come up with some theories as to how
his character will be re-introduced into the plot.
-Avatar is set in the distant future where everyone is a
twin. Like Sam Worthington’s Jake Sulley, who is a twin, General Stone will
have a twin. Sigourney Weaver’s Dr. Grace Augustin that also died when the clan
attempts to transfer her consciousness from her injured human body into her
avatar with the aid of the Tree of Souls, but dies before the process can be
completed is slated to come back for all three sequels so this explains her
come back also.
-Remember Eywa? The deity Jake prays to via a neural
connection to the Tree of Souls, to intercede on behalf of the Na'vi? Well she
or it in a display of greatness, gives life to all life that was lost during
the climactic battle in the first movie and General Stone. Everyone but Michelle
Rodriguez’ character that is. Can’t have her coming back from the dead in every
movie like she did in Fast and Furious 4 now can we.
Cameron originally planned to release the first of the
sequels in 2018 but pushed his schedule back in order to allow for even more
technological advancement. The first of Cameron’s films is set to be released
in 2020 and is rumored to explore the aquatic terrain of Pandora.
Avatar 2 will see the return of Zoe Saldana, Sam
Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.
